HIKING TOWARDS THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN

Hollywood Sign, Los Angeles

Well-angled picture of Hollywood Sign taken at Deronda Drive dead end.
It's more than just nine white letters, it's one of the world's most evocative symbols.

For many travelers, there is no coveted photo than a shot of the world's famous sign. Though it is visible from all over Los Angeles, it can actually be surprisingly difficult to get a well-angled shot.

The sign is situated on Mt. Lee, in the Hollywood Hills area of the Santa Monica Mountains and, unfortunately, it is illegal to get really close to it. The best way, for me, to see the Hollywood sign is to hike to it.

There's an easy hike that takes you close to the sign, where I took my pictures above. It's a pretty easy 15-30 minute hike along dirt and paved access roads from Deronda Drive dead end.

When you reach to its dead end, find a place to park.

Make sure you're not blocking the drive way. Go through the metal gate or through the arched opening in the wall near the gate. Both will take you to the nice spots for viewing the sign.

If you wish to stay longer, remember to bring your own food and water. Since it's already the end of the road, there's no store for you to buy something. Walk a short distance uphill and ready your camera for a nice sightseeing view.
